About the Work

I began creating animal portraiture inspired by Renaissance art in the spring of 2012 and have continued unabated since that time, with a growing emphasis on vulnerable and endangered species.

My goal is to highlight the natural dignity and intelligence of wild creatures. The imagery in my work is fueled by some of my favorite topics -- wildlife, art history, folklore, the natural world, textiles, historic costume, trompe l'oeil techniques, and subtle visual humor.

I employ both heavy body and fluid acrylics on durable gessoed panels that allow for a meticulous building up of many thin layers of paint and extreme detail. Because I work on such a small scale, rarely larger than 8" x 10", I make every square inch count.

Paintings that are no longer available are identified as SOLD in their descriptions. Feel free to contact me directly for information about other works. I am no longer taking commissions.

Please come back for another visit as I will continue to add images of paintings from my back catalogue.
